In an email from to the wider Harvard community, William F. Lee AB ’72, Senior Fellow, President and Fellows of Harvard College, and Susan L. Carney AB ’73, JD ’77, President, Harvard Board of Overseers, write, "On the afternoon of Friday, October 5, Lawrence S. Bacow JD ’76, MPP ’76, PhD ’78 will be formally installed as the president of Harvard University. On behalf of the University’s governing boards, we invite you to join us for this historic occasion as we welcome the twenty-ninth president in Harvard’s 382-year history.
As President Bacow emphasized when he took office in July, every member of the Harvard community plays a vital role in advancing the University’s academic mission. In that spirit, we hope you will take your place at the festivities among faculty, students, staff, alumni, government and community leaders, delegates from universities across the country and around the world, and other colleagues and friends.
This is a pivotal time for Harvard and higher education. The ceremony on October 5 marks not only a moment to celebrate our extraordinarily able new president; it also represents an opportunity to come together as one community to affirm the singular capacity of universities to pursue truth, to advance understanding, and to serve the world.
Located in Harvard Yard, the community-wide activities will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the academic procession and installation ceremony. We will then gather for a celebratory block party. Alumni who are interested in attending should complete the ticket request form, then follow instructions on the form for ticket pickup."
