Next Generation of Materials
Green Drinks July Forum
The ban on free plastics bags in China in 2008 was one of the bigger events moving away from non-renewable materials. People have been highly acceptable of this top-down governmental decision and have responded in creative ways from re-using old plastic and non-plastics bags to making your own bag from old clothing. The Chinese have always had a hand for being inventive maximizing their limited resources; from re-using an old down jackets to make a shield on your scooter to gluing pieces of cardboard together to make a new box.
On the other hand we also see that the market for biodegradable, compostable and re-usable materials is growing. There are innovative construction materials like transparent concrete. And there are entrepreneurs who have taken it as their mission to re-use what exists for their products instead of virgin materials. This event will focus on what these more qualitative examples are of closing the loop; how to recycle, re-use, upcycle and compost, and so giving your waste new value.
